Main Goals: iRead is a 4-year (2017-2020) project that aims to develop personalised learning technologies to support reading skills. This software combines a diverse set of personalised learning applications and teaching tools for formative assessment. We focus on primary school children across Europe, learning to read and learning english as a foreign language including children with dyslexia who are at risk of exclusion from their education. The project is funded by the EU H2020 and comprises 15 partners from across industry and education in 8 European countries.
Main Goals: OpenHandWrite is a suite of programs designed to provide behavioural scientists with tools for capturing and analysing pen movement. It is targeted particularly at researchers exploring the cognitive processes underlying written production, but could also be used to study drawing.
Main Goals: Inputlog is a keystroke logging program enabling you to observe writing process dynamics and collect fine grained data. The program also provides a wide range of analyses opening new perspectives to a better understanding of the (cognitive) complexity of writing.
Actions or activities: We regularly organize workshops and training schools about keystroke logging (e.g., Antwerp, Boston, Beijing) to initiate or further professionalize writing researchers in this type of research.
Main Goals: HandSpy is a web-based application for recording and analyzing online writing data. To collect data, HandSpy uses smartpens and microdotted paper. The pen has an infrared camera pointed at its nib, which, allied to thousands of microdots printed on the paper, enables the recording of spatial and temporal coordinates about the pen trace. This procedure not only records the writer’s pauses and bursts but also reproduces in real time everything that was written.
